THE MEMORIAL
We had a memorial at the South Kingstown Land Trust on Matunuck beach road. The building was the perfect setting for Carol, Wide open wooden building with wide doors overlooking beautiful trees and fields. The perfect outdoor environment. The number of people who came was overwhelming. She had family, school friends, running friends, Library friends, Fire Department friends, personal friends and even some of the wonderful people who attended her at the Hospital. The place was packed indicating how loved she was and the quality of her smile.
CAROL'S SMILE CORNER
BALDWIN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL LIBRARY
In October of 2012 a committee of teachers from Carol's school dedicated a collection of books to Carol called Carol's Smile Corner. An amazing number of colleagues and friends attended to view the selections and the placard. The books were selected based on Carol's loves: running, outdoors, Hawaii, and chocolate among others. The books were labeled with smile faces and inside dedication and will be kept in a special section of the library. Needless to say this was a great honor and I was overwhelmed with the love and respect this represented.
But she had a way of making me believe that I belonged
Anit felt like coming home ...when I found her
And we seemed to fit together when I held her in my arms
And it left me feeling warm ...when i loved her
It's the closest thing to living that I guess I've ever known
And it made me want want to smile...when I loved her
But I know i'll never look upon the likes of her again
And i'll never understand ...why I lost her

It's been ten years, I still miss her every day. I decided to do something, so asked my cousins David and Debbie O'Brien to take me to the coordinates of Carol's ashes in their vessel. Being the most gracious, kindliest, and generous people you will ever want to meet, they said "let's go"
On August 25, a clear and warm evening we headed out of Salt Pond on our expedition.
We stopped, made a toast to Carol's memory with some sparkling wine and I read " My Beloved Wife" by
Natalie Merchant
It was a great night and a wonderful experience.
On the way back Debbie took a picture of the sunset, she did not set any filters, the hearts just showed up.
Technological glitch or Devine intervention, you decide.
